Porta Obscura

Porta Obscura is a control room situated beside the river, conceived as a scaled and abstracted exploration of Zurich’s water management system. Cold, precise and subtly theatrical, it takes the form of a sealed volume open only toward the viewer. Frontal architecture recalls the spatial logic of a war situation room: a site of centralized oversight, anticipation and decision-making. The work stages a measured tension between visible landscape and concealed systems of order. Observation is rendered architectural rather than technological. Silent and self-contained, the installation addresses the latent politics of water through spatial presence alone.

Materials: Galvanized steel tubing; bolts, lock washers, and stainless steel nuts; powder-coated steel sheet; steel cross braces; sand; printed diagrams; reclaimed analog pressure gauges; metal valve handles; 3D-printed components; solid steel rods; polycarbonate panels; metal/ epoxy; transparent silicone sealant.
